The soul of Vietnam
Food, art and festivals. The fastest way for someone who knows nothing about Vietnam to touch Vietnamese culture — by taste, by hand, by ear, not through a presentation.
Why this matters as much as the rest
The association’s SHARE goal says it plainly: so that children of Vietnamese descent and friends from other countries experience the Vietnamese soul through art, culture and food. Experience is the operative word — nobody changes how they see a people after reading a leaflet.
For young Vietnamese born in Czechia it is also the shortest way back: many are shy about speaking Vietnamese but can still cook their grandmother’s dish.
What we run
- Cooking together: one dish, two generations, elders leading and telling the story attached to it.
- An art space: photography, music and performance by people from the community itself.
- Tet and other festivals: open to Czech neighbours, not only to Vietnamese families.
What we avoid
Culture is not a market stall. We avoid the approach that reduces Vietnam to a handful of repeated symbols — conical hat, áo dài, pho — and stops there. Behind every activity there has to be a real person telling a real story.
Take part
You can cook a dish with a story behind it, you make music or paint, or you simply want to come, eat and listen — all of it counts.
